Connect Candu to Claude or ChatGPT (MCP)

You can connect Candu to an AI assistant that supports custom MCP connectors, like Claude or ChatGPT. The assistant can then look up your content, audiences and results, and make changes that you approve in Candu.

How it works

The connector runs through your own Candu login, in your browser. There's no API key or separate password to set up. That means:

  • Candu has to be open and signed in in your browser whenever you use the assistant. If you close Candu or sign out, the assistant can't reach it until you open it again.

  • The assistant sees what your Candu account can see, and nothing more.

  • Every change it wants to make shows up in your Candu tab for you to approve.

What you can do

  • Find content by name and check whether it's live, where it shows and who it targets

  • Work out why a piece of content isn't showing to a user

  • Check which segments a user is in and what traits they have

  • Look at views and interactions for your content

  • Create and edit segments

  • Change who sees a piece of content

  • Add or edit an inline placement

The assistant can't publish content, delete anything, or make visual edits. For those, it gives you a link to the right page in Candu.

What you need

  • An AI assistant that supports custom MCP connectors, such as Claude or ChatGPT.

  • The Candu connector URL: https://mcp.dubot.ai/candu

  • Candu open and signed in, in the same browser you'll use to connect.

Step 1: Add the connector

  1. In your AI assistant, add a custom connector (in Claude: Settings > Connectors > Add custom connector).

  2. Paste the URL: https://mcp.dubot.ai/candu

  3. Select Connect. A sign-in page opens in your browser.

Step 2: Open Candu

On the sign-in page, select Open product. Leave the sign-in tab open; it finishes on its own.

The sign-in page with the Open product button. Your assistant's name appears in bold.

Step 3: Allow the connection

  1. Candu opens on your dashboard and asks "Did you start this connection to [your assistant]?" Check that the name matches the assistant you're connecting, then select Allow.

  2. Go back to your assistant. It's now connected.

If you didn't start the connection, select Deny. Nothing is connected.

Step 4: Try it

Keep your Candu tab open, then ask your assistant a question about your workspace, for example:

  • "Which of my content is live right now?"

  • "Why isn't the Welcome modal showing for user 1234?"

  • "Create a segment for users on the Pro plan."

Approve a change

When the assistant wants to change something, a request appears in the top right of your Candu tab. It shows the action, such as Run Create Segment, and the details the assistant sent. Select Accept to make the change or Decline to skip it. The assistant then checks the result.

If you're not sure what a request will do, decline it and ask the assistant to explain the change first.

Troubleshooting

  • "The user is not currently in the application": Candu isn't open, or you're signed out. Open Candu in your browser, sign in, then ask again.

  • No connection request appears in Candu: make sure you're signed in to Candu in the same browser as the sign-in page, then select Open product again.

  • Disconnect: remove the Candu connector in your AI assistant's settings.
