Creating Guided Journeys with Candu CTAs

Create connected user journeys by having CTAs trigger other content when users navigate to new pages.

Build connected experiences that guide users through multiple pages by using CTAs to trigger follow-up content based on where users navigate and what they click.

Use this pattern when you want to:

  • Walk users through related sections or features across different pages

  • Create progressive guidance that builds on user interest or actions

  • Guide users through newly updated areas of your product

  • Build flexible journeys where users can opt in or exit at any point

How guided journeys work

This approach combines URL navigation with interaction tracking to create seamless hand-offs between content pieces:

  1. User clicks a CTA in your experience (e.g., "Next" or "Show me")

  2. The CTA navigates them to a specific page URL and tracks their click

  3. That tracked interaction creates segment membership

  4. Your next content piece (another Hotspot, Overlay, Inline content, Banner) targets that segment

  5. When the user lands on the new page, they automatically see the next step

Users who click "Dismiss" or "Skip" exit the journey and won't see subsequent content because they don't meet the segment criteria. This respects user choice while still guiding interested users forward.

Watch this 3-minute walkthrough showing a complete guided journey setup using Hotspots:

Setting up a guided experience

  1. Map out which pages your journey will span and in what order

  2. Create your first experience on the starting page

  3. Add two CTA buttons to your experience

    • "Dismiss" or "Skip" button to allow users to exit the journey

    • "Next" or "Show me" button to allow users to opt-in

  4. Rename the interaction labels for both CTAs (Example: "Clicked Next - Style Guide Typography")

  5. Create a segment for users who clicked "Next"

  6. Create your next content piece

  7. In Placements, target the exact URL of the "Next" CTA

  8. In Segmentation, target the segment you created in Step 5

And that's it! Your journey might go from Hotspot → Overlay → Another Hotspot → Inline content → Banner. Use whatever makes sense for each step.
